Your Mom/Your Dad are in action tonight!

This is tangentially related to the Monolators: Mary and I have formed a new duo band called Your Mom/Your Dad.  It's us with new songs, mostly written by Mary, on casiotone keyboard, drum machine, bass, and electric autoharp.  We are playing our very first show at Echo Curio tonight (that is, Wednesday night) at midnight.  Songs about hitchikers, French phrasebooks, and high school crushes.  See you there?

live recordings aplenty

I just stumbled across this ridiculously comprehensive post from Recording LA--I had no idea that they'd recorded as many of our shows as they have--including last week's show with Summer Darling, and even (tangentially related) the Cobra Lilies show from April with So Many Wizards!  I had no idea that these last few sets were recorded, and kudos to them for their fact-checking, too!  Very impressive.

Silver Cities studio pix/Spaceland tonight

LA Underground was kind enough to pass along these lovely photos from last month--this is us working on tracks for our new Silver Cities ep, engineered by none other than our friend Luke of boxViolet fame.  Many, many thanks to both Luke and LAU!

There are more pictures kicking around, and I will post them as they come.  Please remember that tonight is our last show until October--we play at Spaceland at 10pm as part of the Summer Darling residency.  We would love to see you there.

Oh no!

Last night Ray was involved in a bicycle-type altercation and broke his wrist and collarbone!  OW.

So he is not going to be able to play (much/at all?) for a while, but--we still soldier on undaunted.  Monolators will be (temporarily) a 4-piece for our Spaceland gig but we are still playing the show.  Please join me in wishing Ray a speeeedy recovery--we'll all be well and healthy for our comeback show in October.

We are on hiatus. But.

We mentioned this to a couple of folks in private, but I'll repeat it officially here: Monolators is taking a break from live shows for a few months.  I hate hate HATE doing this, but necessity compels. This does mean, though, that we'll have a nice show when we return (in November, I think) to coincide with the vinyl release of a double EP we're working on: this will be a single record with the Ruby, I'm Changing My Number tracks from last year on one side, and 4 brand-new tracks that we're finishing up right now (many, many thanks to Luke from boxViolet for his help in recording and mixing them ) on the other side.  In fact I have some nice studio pics and footage to share as soon as I can figure out how to bust them out of the prison of my cameraphone.  We'd hoped to have a new full LP for you, but that will have to wait a bit longer--plus, it's great to see the Ruby tracks finally get mastered and have a proper release.  So, yes, watch out for this new record in the fall.  We're calling it Silver Cities.

There is one thing that'll break our performance hiatus, though: a show with our friends Summer Darling, who have the residency at Spaceland this month.  We've known Ben & Heather for years and years, about as long as we've been playing as The Monolators, and we love them dearly, so we're delighted to share the 3rd Monday of July with them (that would be the 19th, with The Franks, whom I believe feature members of Superhumanoids, and Seaspin).  We have the 10:00 slot.  We'd love to see you there--but if not, we'll see you in November.
