Kickstarter cover song #7: "God Of Thunder" by KISS

OK, so, our original plan was to have everyone in the band play this song on bass--but we didn't have enough basses. I opened up the case to my spare bass two days ago and found that the headstock had mysteriously split almost clean in two. I didn't smash it, I swear! It is being glued back together as we speak. So, no quintuple bass. Sorrreee. You'll have to live with this:

Thanks Jed!

Last week of the RFSL residency, w. Walking Sleep & World Record

Hi friends--

This Tuesday is the last night of our Radio Free Silverlake residency, and I hope you can make it. We're playing with our friends World Record and Walking Sleep, and there will also be a return of the pretzel cookies!

It's also likely to be our last show with the full electric band until...sometime in April, probably. We have one show scheduled in February at Lot 1, which (as you may know) is tiny and lends itself more to an acoustic-type show, so we'll be more stripped down and quiet there. And we will probably be on hiatus in March. So, if you'd like to see us in full frenzy--tuesday's your chance.

Vote for next week's pretzel selection!

Mary Monolator just created a poll that I'd like you all to participate in--a very important poll--it will determine which kinds of pretzel we're going to serve on Tuesday's show. PLEASE VOTE YOU LAZY PUNX, like our good friend Guenther Oettinger here:

Lovely review of last week's show

In anticipation of tonight's show with Useless Keys and Modern Time Machines (and more pretzels), here is a very nice review of last week's show from the Rock NYC blog. I like how the picture makes it look like we're playing on a vast stage rather than LaBrie's. Right on. There's also a video on there of last week's performance of "Ruby" which turned out rather well.

I'd also like to share this video, shot by a very nice gentleman (who may/may not wish to remain anonymous? Not sure. Tell me) who has discovered how to make me look much more exciting than I actually am:

See you tonight?

10pm--Useless Keys

Radio Free Silverlake Preztel residency continues tonite at LaBrie's

Hi everyone!

Just a little note here to the effect that we continue our residency tonight at LaBrie's in Glendale--it's free, and not only are there free Mary pretzels, there will also be a modest batch of what I believe are called Pretzel Cookie Treats, which I can only describe as a German concoction that involves sticking a pretzel inside a cookie. A cookie baked from 3 different kinds of chocolate. And powdered sugar. And nuts. I don't know what they're properly called in German but I can tell you that I brought a plateful to Pehrspace last night for a Sean Carnage show and they lasted less than 2 minutes. So--please come early for some Pretzel Cookie action or you will be out of luck.

Also you should come early because our friends Hexham Heads play at 9, and Kissing Cousins at 10! And of course we go on at 11.

There's a little writeup about tonight's show at Radio Free Silverlake, including mp3's of a song we haven't played live for at least 4 years, and a very amusing/embarrassing demo I made of said song circa 2004. Please take a look:

Also, I couldn't find a picture of the pretzel cookies, so I'll give you this instead:

Kickstarter cover song #6: "The Moth" by Aimee Mann

Confession: I had a crush on Aimee Mann when she was in 'Til Tuesday. I still have a battered 45 rpm picture sleeve copy of this which either my brother or I bought new at the State Drug Store in East Lansing. There was a time when you could walk down there and pick out whatever top 10 hit you wanted from a big wooden bin on a 7" 45rpm record with a cool picture sleeve. There were hundreds of singles. 88 cents apiece. Your Thompson Twins, your Ah-ha with included booklet showing stills from the very excellent "Take On Me" video, your Cameo "Word Up" singles. All of them. That time is gone now.

*cue desolate sound of blowing wind, crows*

Anyway...all of 'Til Tuesday had really excellent hair, and later Aimee went on to make this record:

From which we draw this week's request, which goes all the way to my sister-in-law Shelby in chilly Grand Rapids, Michigan! Thanks Shelby!

All ages Smell show on Thursday

Hi everybodee

Thank you so much for coming out to our first RFSL residency show in Glendale last night--pretzels were consumed and a fine time was had by all and sundry. Thank you to Shirley Rolls and Downtown/Union too! Next week it will be Hexham Heads and Kissing Cousins! Huzzah! All of these bands have two words in their names! All of them!

Another thing--we have decided to postpone the next appearance of our kickstarter cover song videos until next week--things are just too busy (I almost wrote "too busty" there) at the moment, so, please bear with us.

Also! On top of our residency, which is at a drinking establishment and not really accessible to anyone under 21, we are playing an all ages show tomorrow night at The Smell! Our second time playing there, we are so happy! It's with Moses Campbell, Peter And The Wolf, and Black Jesus--I believe we are playing first at 9pm. There is a facebook event here, and I very much hope you can come! POSTER:
