Kickstarter cover song #2: "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey

Song #2 in our Kickstarter Cover Song feeding frenzy. This one is for the fine Mr. Jeff Koga who requested, yes, "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

You'd think that I would know all the words to this song by now. But no, you'd be wrong, as you can see here. Well, I was close.

Also, I hope you are impressed by the prominent Peaveyness of our setup: PA amp, speaker, and guitar, all Peavey. If Peavey made a glockenspiel I'm sure we'd have one of those too.

Kickstarter cover song #1: "Pecan Pie" by Golden Smog

Now that Silver Cities is released and the records are in the mail to our wonderful kickstarter supporters, we finally--FINALLY--can start with the next phase of fulfilling the premiums for our project's prized pledgees: the cover songs.

As you may recall, one of the pledging possibilities for our project was, for the princely sum of 40 clams, the Cover Song Option: that is, the lucky pledger has the right/honor/duty to pick a song, any song, and we perform a live rendition of said song, captured on video.  We've done this before (strictly via audio, tho) and, as before, our M.O. is to convene in our living room, stumble through the song a couple of times, and then bash out a live rendition without overdubs or studio magique of any kind.  We had 10 people choose the Cover Song Option, and so now it's time for us to make good on our pledge.

Our plan is to post a new cover song video every week until we've satisfied all requests.  This week's video is dedicated to Joan from Majorca whose selection was "Pecan Pie" by Golden Smog.  And here it is!  Thanks Joan!

Shirley Rolls toonite, and vinyl

Tonight I play with the Shirley Rolls at the midnight slot at Spaceland.  It's Le Switch's record release show, you see.  I am wearing a cape.  Our pals Big Whup! are playing too, at 9pm.  So you should come early and stay to the bitter end.  I swear you won't be disappointed.

ALSO.  Tomorrow we go to pick up the vinyl records for Saturday's show.  Cutting it a bit fine, I suppose, but there we are.  I am excited!

Cover songs update

I'm fielding a number of questions from our generous kickstarter donors along the lines of "hey, where is my cover song," so I thought I'd give you all an update.

We are hard at work getting the records themselves ready--I spent another night silkscreening covers yesterday (cassette boombox choice: "Brand New Knife" by Shonen Knife) and it looks like we'll have enough done to cover the Kickstarter pledgers on Saturday.  So if any of you can make it--we'll have your record for you then.  Next up is finishing the t-shirts, which are almost all done, and then pretzels, and then we do the cover songs.  We hope to have everything wrapped up by the end of the month.

Also--I hope your formal attire for Saturday is shaping up.

Silkscreening chaos

Well not chaos really.  Staying up late and having a silkscreening party!  I always make sure to listen to old cassette tapes on the mighty $6 Sony boombox whilst silkscreening.  At this point I believe I am listening to Dee-Lite.  Or maybe Sibelius--I can't remember, it's all an ink-stained blur.

These are the covers of the new Silver Cities/Ruby EP for the kickstarter folks and the release show on Saturday.

Silver Cities/Ruby record release show this Saturday at Pehrspace!

Hi all--

We're getting ready for our release show for the Silver Cities/Ruby split EP, and accordingly I wish to invite you all to the GALA EVENT that is to take place this Saturday at the beloved Pehrspace:

Like the poster sez, it's all-ages and 5 bucks.  The lineup is wonderful: Hot TV, boxViolet, and the Tleilaxu Music Machine!  I am very very proud.  We've been silkscreening record covers and t-shirts for Saturday like fools.

One thing I want to mention: as this will be a GALA EVENT, we ask that people come in (faux) formal attire.  Whatever that means to you is fine by us.  I, for one, am wearing a silver tuxedo.  You may dress as you see fit but if you feel like tarting yourselves up a bit, that would be SWELL.  The colors are (natch) silver and red.  Sweeeeet.  See you there!
