My Grandfather, who turned 90 last year, was a marine who fought in Guadalcanal and Korea. One of the things he brought back from Korea was a copy of this very 78 that's playing in this video here--it's called China Night, and despite its title is actually a Japanese record:My Grandfather had one of those 1950's console stereo systems that was built into a huge, freestanding cabinet/table/piece of furniture that's about seven feet long and weighs 150 pounds. You'd open the lid of the polished wooden top and there would be the turntable underneath--pretty snappy. He played me this record once and I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever heard, despite having no idea what the lyrics were about. I'm looking for my own copy now.

Recent obsessions
I realize I don't post here very much any more, as Monolators is in a little bit of hibernation at the moment. We're not done, though--far from it. Just taking a little rest so that Cobra Lilies can get some attention.I think this is sad. I am going to buck the trend of abandoning one's blog that seems to be so trendy with the kidz these days.
